Office Envy: Scentsy

by Marissa Lovell

What once lived in a 40-foot storage container on a small Idaho sheep farm now sprawls onto 73.7 gorgeous acres right off Eagle Road in Meridian. Home to more than 700 Boise Valley employees and an active part of the community, the Scentsy Commons Tower is a hub of activity, ideas and generosity. At the heart of the campus and the company, the Tower was inspired by the idea of being a greenhouse – a place where employees can thrive and flourish and big ideas can grow.

RelEVENT Launches Nationwide

Boise-based RelEVENT, an app that collects events from around a city and recommends them to users, launched nationwide Sept. 19.

RelEVENT originated at a Boise Young Professionals’ b|launched competition in May 2015 when  CEO Stacey Donohue, Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Heath and CTO Sean MacLachlan came together to create an app that helps users learn about events before they happen.

“I love the movie Office Space,” Donohue said at a presentation in December. “It came to the Egyptian Theater this year, but I didn’t hear about it until the next day when I saw posts on Facebook showing friends carrying their red staplers. That sucked because I would have loved to have gone if I knew about it and that is what this app is for.”

The app aggregates events from various community calendars and groups each event into a category such as music, sports or business. After users like, dislike or ignore event suggestions, the system begins to send event notifications based on that user’s taste.

'Inspired by the creative club, Soho House, we want to make the lobby of The Owyhee an unaffiliated place to work, ask questions, take meetings, drink and eat, network, collaborate, be quiet, and smash our brains together. A place to continue to figure out how to make this city one of the coolest places to live. The Soho House continues to be a platform for creatives in cities all around the world. The Owyhee Plaza can be Boise's version of the Soho House. Join us, if you want. We want you.'

Profit & Purpose: Growing a company that aims to put a dent in the universe

by Jess Flynn

How do you define what motivates you, what gets you out of bed each morning? If you can sum it up in 140-characters you might be onto something. For Nathaniel Mueller, CEO of SaaSfocus, his one line bio pointedly states: "If anyone ever questions my purpose or intentions they are simple. I want to do interesting, compelling and meaningful things ALL the time."

Purpose and meaning are the alchemy that fuels Mueller. Spend just ten minutes with this Meridian-based global entrepreneur and that becomes clear. The ability to do meaningful work that can 'put a dent in the universe' is at the core of the start and rapid growth of his agile consulting, design and development company SaaSfocus. “We are trying to accomplish projects where we can implement meaningful change,” says Mueller. And that is his competitive advantage, at least when it comes down to the key battleground for growth - finding talent.
