The Future of Agriculture is Bright in Idaho

If there’s any doubt as to how important agriculture is to Idaho’s economy, take a look at these numbers.

The agriculture and food production sector makes up 20 percent of the state’s sales. At least 14 percent of the jobs in Idaho are in agriculture and food production, and the industry makes up 16 percent of the state’s gross domestic product.

“Agriculture’s contributions to sales and jobs are huge,” said Celia Gould, director of the Idaho Department of Agriculture.

Lewis-Clark Valley Named Newest American Viticultural Area

Idaho's burgeoning wine industry just got another boost with the federal designation of the state's third American Viticultural Area (AVA) - the Lewis-Clark Valley AVA. Idaho continues to garner national attention as a prominent grape growing area after the Department of the Treasury established the Snake River Valley AVA in 2007, the Eagle Foothills AVA in November 2015 and now the Lewis-Clark Valley AVA. New regions illustrate an emerging wine culture in Idaho and will act as a catalyst for development as more growers investigate the region.
