Artist and history enthusiast Josh Evarts has transformed the old bank building into "the Vault".
Evarts used to walk by the 111-year-old building on his way to coach his son's basketball team at Cole Valley Christian High School. His curiosity about the building led him to do some research.
“This was our first bank for downtown Meridian," he said. "So when people were producing produce and raising cattle and this farm community was getting established, this was the place where everybody brought their money to secure it and protect it."
Though the building was in rough shape when he bought it, Evarts envisioned an inviting gathering place with a rich brick and hardwood interior, leather couches, Edison bulbs strung from high-tension wires, roll-up windows and his artwork hanging the walls. Oh, and let's not forget — "I had to have an unbelievable sound system in here, because I want to listen to Sinatra and U2 and Led Zeppelin and hang out," Evarts said.
Evarts' office is in the back of the building. The rest of the space will be open for small events, business meetings, or even just a place to sit and relax.
