Boise State Commencement Ceremony Nearly 2,000 Winter Graduates

Boise State University’s winter Commencement Dec. 17 honored nearly 2,000 mid-year graduates and paid tribute to Rod Lewis, one of Idaho’s longest-serving Idaho State Board of Education leaders.

About 1,000 students participated in the university’s 99th Commencement ceremony. In total, 1,937 students were eligible to receive 2,144 degrees and certificates. Of those, 322 were eligible for honors: 209 cum laude, 97 magna cum laude and 16 summa cum laude.

Boise State expects to confer around 4,000 bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral and other degrees this academic year.

Boise’s Bike Culture Booms - Even in Winter!

Boise's vehicle of choice very well may just be of the two-wheeled variety. With hundred of miles of foothills trails and greenbelt for cyclists to enjoy, more and more are commuting to work, school and to social activities--ditching their cars all year round. With bike share programs cropping up in Boise, people are able to depend on biking as their primary mode of transportation throughout the year.

Bogus Basin & Boise School District Gave Students Winter Sports Opportunity

Students from throughout the Boise School District hit the slopes for two days in February for an all-expenses-paid day at Bogus Basin with equipment rental, ski and snowboard lessons, lunch, and transportation.

The trip, part of a partnership between Bogus Basin and Boise School District, was earned by hundreds of students enrolled in AVID, a program that targets students in the academic middle who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. The incentive was awarded to junior high and senior high school-age students who achieved certain GPA and attendance benchmarks.
